More and more Americans and Westerners are suspicious of “organized religion”. But Americans remain deeply spiritual, and continue to express a desire for a meaningful life of transcendence. The environmental movement represents one such trend: Re-connecting with Mother Earth, seeing all life as part of a process, walking humbly on the Earth. “Avatar” was just a billion-dollar illustration of how more and more Americans see their world. But what does Islam have to say about this? Are there any negative consequences to embracing such worldviews? How might our interpretation of Islam be affected? Haroon Moghul discusses these questions in a unique commentary on a blockbuster movie.
