Asslamu Alaikum Wa Rahmatullah.
I don’t know much about Maududi but his followers caused great trouble for our country. His call to preserve the integrity of Pakistan was put to action by murdering thousands of innocent people who supported separation. Many of the leaders of Jamat-E-Islam(Bangladesh) are alleged war criminals(and it is common knowledge in our country, Bangladesh).
I didn’t understand why you have praised him at the start of one of the lectures. I don’t mean to offend you but it was shocking for me that somebody would praise such a man.
I’ll be very glad if you can explain me the situation.
Salaam.
Salam Abdullah,
I do not know about this particular issue, but I highly doubt Maududi would support crimes against Bengalis. What I am guessing is he was against separation and wanted Muslim unity as an idea.
When others implemented that idea, they committed crimes.
As. salam. This may be a long response, but I can not but help to comment on this issue.
Unity is desirable of muslim ummah. Lets not forget separation of India (1947) has caused great deal of pain to millions of people, both hindus and muslims. As stated in some history books, it was the great migration due to political reason. On both border side, muslim and hindus caused atrocities to each other. But that’ s another issue.
Our prophet (sa.) was a patriot. He did not wanted to break Mekkah or Medina because of Islam. And it is a part of Iman to be a patriot. Muslims lived side by side with jews, pagans and christians. Now those maulanas who were born and bread in India, wanted to break away from their motherland due to their religion in the first place must have some questionable authority. In fact maududi in first place was against the creation of pakistan. But backed away from his position when pakistan was created due to benefit from political gain.
Maududi was also responsible for instigating public anger against ahmadiya community in pakistan. His teachings are widely used in pakistan to justify persecution of minority. It is widely known that, he supported militancy in the name of Islam. And sorry to say his ideological goal was to capture power in the name of Islam.
Now as far the liberation war (1971) of Bangladesh, One has to admit pakistan army has caused great deal of atrocities both toward muslims and minorities. According to Bangladesh government, pakistan army had killed 30 million civilian and raped 100000 women. Obviously begot the question on the moral status of pakistan army members. They have destroyed universities and colleges, bridges, looted banks and agricultural land. No other muslim country in the face of the earth has caused pain to other muslims like pakistan. (Also look at baluchi and sindhi liberation movement in pakistan). Hamdur rahman commission report published in pakistan also supports these claims.
Why would Bangladesh break away from pakistan, if it were all peaceful and politically correct? Because, pakistan in the first place was created on fallacious reason. From the creation to present day, pakistan is ruled mostly by army generals (punjabi ethnic). Most of them were ethically and morally corrupted and used Islam and maulanas like maududi to capture power and exploit political state.
Still to date Maududi’s philosophy and its political party – namely (jamat-e-islami ) causing trouble in pakistan and bangladesh. jamat-e-islami’s student wings has killed hundreds of students in Bangladesh. Also attacked religious minorities and preached hatred in the name of Islam. As a muslim I would ashamed to admit these. But truth is truth. As for your information, Bangladesh has banned maududis books officially.
So, please look objectively. the religion of Islam preach tolerance. There are good maulanas and bad maulanas. Preaching hatred was never an objective in Islam. So make up your mind what do you want to follow. Do not take advice blindly.
May allah be with us and led us to the straight path.
Asif
allegations against the leaders of Jamaat-E-Islami and their student-wing are not true. These are simply some propaganda from the anti-islamic block of Bangladesh and some young muslims got brainwashed.
“Bangladesh has banned maududis books officially.” -> this is a lie. maududis’ books are widely read in bangladesh and they are not banned. Tafhimul Quran is the most cirucalted tafsir here.
I Copmletely agree with imam suhaib as i an witness of those day imam moudodi wants to see unite pakistan .
I’am Africian Americian muslim who likes to study different islamic movements I have heard this in study circle about Jamat-E islam. This also came from a brother from Bangladesh. The study circle was dealing with different revivalist movements. This issue was brought up.Hopefully somebody in future can answer the question .Maududi was defintenly a great writer and he also contributed to the founding of Madania Univeristy, in Saudi Arabia.
