During the last few months, I’ve had the opportunity to interact with a few amazing teachers. One of these amazing teachers is Shaykh Waleed Basyouni from AlMaghrib Institute. In Chicago in February and March was his Aqeedah class about the pillars of Iman, Rays of Faith, and this last past weekend in Memphis I attended his class on the stories and lessons from the lives of our great scholars, Torch Bearers. This man is someone who has amazing character – every brother that met him this weekend fell in love with his personality, no matter what level of practice they are at. He really makes each person he talks to feel loved.
Upon returning back from Memphis, Shaykh Waleed and his wife, Umm Yousuf, found out that their 4 year old son Yousuf has been diagnosed with leukemia. This struck me particularly hard, because just this past Sunday night at dinner, the shaykh was telling us about how his son had been sick and he humbly and quietly requested us to make du’aa for him. We all made du’aa that moment, but little did we know that the sickness would be something this serious.
Alhamdulilah ala kuwli haal. Upon my return yesterday, our son Yousuf (4yrs old) was diagnosed with leukemia. I ask Allah The AlMighty, The Most Generous The Lord of the Great Throne to heal him by His Mercy… Healing with which will not leave any sickness behind. He is supposed to get several tests tomorrow so they can figure out what type of leukemia he has. I will update you all, inshaAllah, on his status. I’m sharing this information with you so we can all learn a lesson and take advantage of our health before our sickness because no one knows what might happen to him or to her. May Allah protect us all and cure those who are sick among us.
If any of you wish to send a video message to Yousuf to cheer him up it will be appreciated and loved by him!
Umm Yousuf and I have our hands full right now so the forum will be the best way for communication for us right now.
Finally, a special apology to Albuquerque for not being able to make it this weekend for Torch Bearers. I was looking forward to being the first one to teach in this new Qabeelah.
I ask of all of the amazing readers and writers of SuhaibWebb.com to raise their hands in du’aa for Yousuf. He is not just the son of a great friend and shaykh of mine, but is also a part of the body of the Muslim ummah, as the hadith says (paraphrased), “the ummah is a single body…”
Per Shaykh Waleed’s suggestions, I used my webcam on my laptop to record a one minute video for Yousuf. If you have the capability, you should try to do the same – it takes a moment of your time, but can really boost and lift the spirits of Yousuf and his family. Imagine looking at a folder of hundreds of videos from his brothers and sisters wishing him well! What a great thing to do, insha Allah.
May Allah grant Yousuf a quick, strong, painless, and everlasting recovery, and may He give his family strength and patience throughout this troublesome time.
