i have felt as who ever wrote this has expressed so many many times. desperately wanting to be muslim, and productive, having no problam at all with islam, but coming up against problams with muslims time and time and time again, it is very frustrating and disheartening. i think we have many problams because as was said, we don't seem to have an islamic comunity anymore. rather we have little tiny comunities and they can be very disparaging and quick to outcast, without bothering to ensure they have hold of the right end of the stick, and that they haven't miss-understood you. it seems nearly everyone in such comunities has no time, and is too busy, and you hear things so often like: "ask me questions if you want, but don't send me essays, for i don't have time," where shall i send my essays then? it isn't my falt if i have many questions, limited knowledge and few answers surely? i was taught something very early on, which is that as long as someone calls themselves muslim, then they are your brother/sister, and you are obbligated to each other for as long as they call themselves a muslim. it has surved me well, but means i feel very sad, for i have been willing to forgive those who have outcast me, yet they are not even willing to talk to me, "ye will not enter paradise til ye love one another." they just convince themselves people like me are not muslim, then they trick themselves in to thinking the above doesn't apply. allah knows best, may he unite us insha-allah.

I'm sorry but more division and disunity is hardly what the Ummah needs now. And widening the "generation gap" (an oxymoron in Islam) by sidestepping the elders in your community is a guranteed failure and an immediate shot in the foot. Youthful exuberance and zeal is certainly commendable but is always in need of guidance from those with experience and wisdom. While your criticisms are valid and not entirely misplaced, your soulution is. Developing programs at "your" (another oxymoron) masjid along with the current members of the community is the only way to develop and EXPAND a community as implied as your intention. Starting up smaller niche communities suitable to various groups with their iwn agendas is harldy progress.
