Asalamu alaykum,

Abu Usamah:

It would all depend on the science at hand. I agree that there are a large number of scholars present in America and on the globe. I'm not in agreement with those who postulate that there are no scholars as such a contention goes against the promise of Allah, "We have sent the reminder and We will protect it." Protecting the reminder means more than promising that it stays memorized. The greater promise is that the "Reminder's" understanding is protected.

@Suhaib

What qualifications are required to be considered a scholar? While we have heard the refrain "there are no scholars in the west" for decades now.

To date no who has uttered this phrase has provided the criteria on which knowledge is to be judged except to provide the name scholars they follow.

I'm of the oppinion that are many Muslims in America that could be considered scholars.
