SubhanAllah- may Allah guide our sister, Does she not have enough hayaa to dress up in front of our scholars when women of different faiths take extra steps to respect Islam when interviewing / visiting Muslims?

That female host is a NON-MUSLIM so she is not bound by Islamic dress code but the TWO SO-CALLED (SELEF-ELECTED) “scholars”are! Don't they know that it is HARAM to look at 'awrah of women by Ijma' whether or not there is likelihood of temptation, in Quran its called Ghadd Al-Basr!

“There is an oft quoted saying ” مَن أمر بمعروف فليكن أمره بمعروف” which roughly means “whoever enjoins good, let the way in which he enjoins be good”. A story was related in which an old man was praying next to a young man, and the old man was impressed with the way the young man was praying. So he told him that, and then said “haraman”, which means “inshAllah you get to pray in the Haram in Mecca”. The young man crossed his eyes in anger saying “This [i.e. this saying] was never mentioned in the sunna!” To which the old man replied “And were ill manners ever mentioned in the sunnah?”…”

Were you referring to Muhamad Ali the grafiti artist and Imam Suhaib Webb the azhari? Seems to me like the two righteous brothers did very well in lowering their gaze. Perhaps we should remember that the Prophet (pbuh) said he has been sent to perfect noble character; it's called adab.

    Asalamu alaykum,

    Aida:

I would encourage you to review your statements and think before speaking. The woman is indeed and both of did our best to lower our gazes and observe Islamic etiquette. Perhaps our efforts were not up to your pious standards and high morals. I'm not sure what proof you have to back up your accusations, but I swear by Allah that when I meet Him, if giving the opportunity, I will take your hassanat.

After the interview I told Br. Muhammad in a joking manner, “Watch some of our brothers and sisters will comment on her dress and accuse us of evil.” Indeed, you have unfortunately proved me right.

“Take from him his adab before you take from him his knowledge,” the mother of Imam Malik giving advice to her son before he went to one of his first teachers, Rabi'ah ibn AbdurRahman.

Looks like you need to take a lesson from Mommy Malik! Subhan Allah.

Upon reading the comments I do have a question for you Imam Suhaib. If your to know beforehand that someone is dressed inappropriately–like for me because I'm a sister and a man wants to interview me about Islam but say isn't wearing a shirt (i ask because of experience) how do you go about it? Do you accept given that its a chance to speak about Islam or do you decline fearing temptation? Two things sway me about this because of the fact that in life there will always be temptations you have to lower your gaze about, but then if you know about something beforehand should I have avoided it? Because I've heard a saying that its like going into a club and saying “Okay now to test myself in lowering my gaze!” where you shouldn't go into environments that promote a certain ideology in the first place and think yourself stronger than your temptations.

Any help would be appreciated on the situation. JazakAllah khayr for your efforts.

Inshallah, instead of bashing on our sister like this, we should make du'a for her hidaya. We should also try to understand where she may be coming from. There are many Muslims who behave in haraam ways mainly because they never grew up in a healthy Islamic environment. Al Hamdulilah, Allah (SWT) has blessed us with an understanding of basic Islamic principles. So we should strive to try to do our best to reach out to these people.

assalamualaykum, aida. they probably didn't know that the host is going to dress like that coz its life tv show. also, since its a tv show, this is a da'wah for those ppl too.. they prob don't know about islam..the sheiks am pretty sure aren't looking at that Woman all the time and pretty sure they wish they can lower their gaze at all time but it's a tv show and they're being interviewed. .. am sure they know their ettiquete in Islam..having them on tv is blessing to show ppl in malaysia whats going on/what they're donig in malaysia and attract many muslims & non muslims to their program and da'wah.. please don't accuse and use common sense before you start talking and attacking people. May Allah guide us and forgive us all. wassalam

Sheikh Suahib Webb, you better stop going to streets, cos there are so many ladies who are not properly dressed, and you shouldn't take any public transport, because you might accidently touch a mahram!!!

For GOD sake!!! What's up with all you haters!, and for the sister who says that the Sheikhs are self elected, well, on behalf of millions of lovers, we're happy with the Sheikhs and appreciate their efforts. Well at least they're doing their best in serving Islam, what are you doing?
let me tell what you're doing, you're doing nothing but criticizing those who are striving to spread the “Kalema Tayyiba” the good word, so why don't u just die in hatred and let the good people do their work.

Sheikh Suhaib, IIUM is waiting for you, wednesday it is.

is that very wise to say? since you are a scholar, that is a major thing to say to a fellow muslim, or isnt it!? you are far more knowledeable so shouldnt you be advising the sister/brother in the best manner? or should you resort to his/her level and answer back harshly! would you like a fellow muslim to take your hassanat on DOJ? I THINK NOT!

As the organizer of the tour that hosted Imam Suhaib & Bro Mohammed Ali, let me clarify a few points:

    1. Both hosts are non-Muslims
    2. We did not know who the hosts were going to be & how they were going to be dressed. Its a live talk show that covers all sorts of issues. Its not a Islamic TV channel.
    3. If you were to watch the video, I'm sure you'd notice Imam Suhaib & Bro Mohd were constantly lowering their gaze. I hope the critics were lowering their gaze as well :)
    4. After the segment came on air, we received so many calls of people interested in attending the talks to come. It was the FIRST TIME on English live TV for Islam to be talked about openly, and what better people to represent that important moment than our two brothers? The impact this short segment had on many who watched it was powerful! In Malaysia, there is no English Islamic channel.
    5. We have been invited to appear for the second time on the same show, unfortunately there isn't time to do so due to the packed speaking schedule for Imam Suhaib in KL.
    6. Unlike in US & England, teenagers & young adults in Malaysia don't really attend any Islamic talks, its usually older people. The attendance by young people for our talks so far have been very encouraging, and one of the reasons for it has been because of the TV segment.

Please have some manners & stop assuming before you know the full picture.

Final 2 talks are on 14th (Multimedia University) & 15th July (International Islamic University). Info here: http://www.youngmuslimsproject.org

Masha Allah, the event that YMP hosted really give a new perspective about Islam to many Malaysians, especially teenagers and young adults. The speakers appeared on TV programs, not just the Malay channel, but also the English channel. Thumbs-up to the organizers, and also to the speakers, masha Allah!

Really, Imam Suhaib Webb managed to engage with the young muslims and make them excited about Islam.

Insha Allah, I hope Imam Suhaib Webb will come again to Malaysia and appear in many our local TV shows. I saw Bro. Hamza Tzortzis on TV3 talking about Islam and God. He is also one of the speakers. We, Malaysians, never seen this type talks on morning TV shows, and especially on non-islamic TV show.

Alhamdulillah, may Allah swt rewards everyone who put their effort in all these. :)

    Asalamu alaykum,

    Random:

One thing we try to be around is be brotherly. Inshallah, in the future you could use your real name and open with salam as it is a great source of ajar. As al-Sheikh Abu Majeed noted it has been reported on behalf of a large number of the salaf, including al-Hassan al-Basri, that they said the same thing to those who needed discipline and direction.

We are not here to massage egos. When folks get out of line it is the job of our senior scholars, see Imam Zaid's recent article on the “rock star” phenomena, and simple senior students of knowledge to correct the ignorant and ill mannered. Your statement and forgetting to say salam perhaps places you in that category as well? Thus, before you jump the gun in the future, understand that perhaps I know things that you don't know, or you have failed to take into account the many statements of our scholars regarding this point. Either way, when it comes to hassanat and meeting Allah, I will take what I can get :) . Students and scholars can no longer allow the ignorant to blackmail them with “Your arrogant scholars, love to me so and so on.” 17 years ago when I started to study with my sheikh and the teachers around him, I would have never talked to them the way that this new IT talib talks to those who are his/her seniors. But again, I'm probably just being an arrogant azhari right Random?

I would go because of the great benefits of dawa. I would lower my gaze and pray that Allah would guide me to what pleases Him; hoping that I could live up to the Prophet's example.

It truly amazes me how stupid us Muslims can be sometimes. I seriously hope that the lady in the video doesn't read all the posts in this thread criticizing her for what she was wearing! Seriously people, have some sense. I think it's important to remember the slogan of the Muslim Brotherhood on this issue: Nahnu Du'at, La Qudhat! Which roughly means: We're Inviters (to salvation), Not Judges!

And if you claim that you were simply criticizing Imam Suhaib and not the woman, did you think for a second that the woman might read this site?! Second: did you even give one or two excuses to Imam Suhaib, let alone 70 of them?

The one who pointed the finger at Imam Suhaib needs to look at the four fingers point back at himself/herself, because they are pointing to his/her heart, which is full of pride and arrogance.

    Assalamualaikum.

SubhanAllah….The 2 Imams are doing such great work for the community and all we can do is criticize…..SubhanAllah, it hurts to see us in this situation. Even in our day-to-day lives, we encounter men and women in non-islamic dress codes…..everywhere..on the streets, on the T.V …all we can do is lower our gaze as the 2 Imams are doing in this video.

Again, i am not a regular in commenting, however, i could not stand these accusations and had to speak up. May Allah guide us all on the right path. May Allah bestow his blessings on the Sheikhs who are trying their best to help our community. May Allah give them the courage and patience to stand such accusations.

    Allah Hafiz
    Maruf

PS: I was strayed and occupied by my Job that i did not even get time for Salat…..Alhamdulillah, I watched Suhaib Webb's videos on YouTube and Allah gave me hidayah to pray and I am trying my best to be a better Muslim.

    Assalamualaikum wbt.

    Dearest Imam Suhaib,

I wanna thank you for all your efforts in Malaysia for this Knowledge & Arts Tour. You appearance on TV that day made a difference to the Malaysian society who are English speaking, and are not Muslims. Please do not be influenced by people who are concerned with judging people, who speak without knowledge and understanding of what's happening in Malaysia. We want you to know that Malaysians welcome you with open arms and you have been a good example for us.

May Allah reward you better, and may Allah have mercy upon the hearts of our brothers and sisters who have been misguided by their passion to correct others.

When will you be back in Malaysia??? Durian, Roti Canai & Sambal !!!! :-) hahahhaa…

    Assalamualaikum,

I'm very happy to see that these events are getting publicity, SubhanAllah! And that they are well-received by the youth! I think that maybe this is the first in Malaysia. Its quite hard to talk about Islam in the open & to interest the mass….. Many thanks to the organizers, and Br. Muhammad, Hamza, Abdur Raheem and Br. Suhaib for taking their time and traveling all the way to Malaysia just to share with us their knowledge. May Allah reward you for your effort.

Kudos too to NTV7 for airing this! You guys rock!

Your talks got me thinking…mashaAllah. What resonated with me, from your talks Br. Suhaib is that we Muslims need to show more KINDNESS, MERCY & COMPASSION..to others & to each other. Being harsh will only push others away from the Deen. And the importance of the internalization of knowledge through ADAB. Many of us tend to forget that. InshaAllah, I will remember this & act on it for as long as I live, by Allah's Mercy.

So please show kindness & respect to each other. Much love to all brothers & sisters :)

p.s./Br. Suhaib, do visit us again..
