El-Hajj Malik has a way of moving me as no one else can. His life was so extraordinary, so momentous, and his words drove to the core of man's dignity and rights.

We Muslims should call him by the name that he chose at the end of his life. We owe him that respect. He was not an "X" anymore. He had a self-chosen Islamic identity. If he had lived longer, most likely his new name would have become firmly established. But the brevity of its use does not detract from its legitimacy and significance.

Ever since learning about Br. Malcolm, I've been 'in love' with him as a figure in history and as a brother, if that makes sense. Just a strong, brilliant personality to say the least and what he was able to discover in his short life, going from such low points to finding the Truth, is just inspiring. I hope those that are just hearing of him do explore further and for those of us whose consciousness he has already entered, keep recalling his legacy and trying to help bring his vision to reality a little bit more everyday.
