Youth Connect: Outlandish
A letter from a Homie in the states:
Sallams All,
I wanted to share with you an activity I did with one of Outlandish’s songs and the impact it had on the youth. I was told by a local youth group coordinator that they had issues with the youth making Salah and if i can do a talk on the importance of making Salah. I really did not want to just give usual reminder or talk on Salah so as I was listening to one of outlandish’s songs (Appreciatin) which deals with communication with Allah (Salah), I thought i would use it to initiate discussion on the topic.
I started the session with the song and received and overwhelming response from the youth and how they were able to relate to all the lyrics and scenarios in the song. It was one of the best discussions I had ever had with youth on the topic of Salah. There were about 45 youth in the room and the majority of them participated in the discussion. They actually came up with ideas on how to encourage each other to make salah and paired up for fajr.
Outlandish’s music is positive and quality, everyone who has heard them loves their message. The amazing thing is that they are mainstream! Their music videos have been on the top ten charts on MTV Europe for years!
Their music is a very powerful tool in reminding and engaging the youth!

Great Post! May Allah (swt) bless Outlandish and grant them the ability to come up with more positive music with lyrics that our generation (and future generations) can relate to here in the west.
After hearing Shaykh Abdullah Adhami featured on Outlandish’s last CD, will Imam Suhaib Webb be the next scholar to be featured on Outlandish’s next album?

Was an absolute pleasure to do artwork for this track

Outlandish’s music is unheard of in mainstream America. America is into dirty south snap music that make no sense. Or screaming punk rock bands who talk about chaos. The most popular songs are about fornication, women as objects, gettin’ money, and how tough/hot/rich the singer/artist is.
Outlandish on the other hand, well, you can see for yourselve in the above post.
May Allah (swt) guide us all. Ameen!

Bismillah ArRahman ArRaheem
This clip has musical instruments in it. Musical instruments remain Haraam, even if the songs they are used in have good lyrics. I hope sheikh Suhaib Webb is not endorsing the use of musical instruments in anasheed.
Wassalam.

Assalaamualaykum,
What about the curse words they used in previous songs of theirs? And the music in the background?

Dear brother and Imam Webb
First i would like to say that you are doing a great work alhamdolilah, may ALLAH swt reward you for your effort.
I just think it´s inappropriate to post music on the site, i wont get into a debate about music. Iam just a student and therefor have little knowledge about the matter, also i could be wrong, what i do know is that helping people understand Islam and doing Dawah does not in my opinion mix with posting music regardless of the message. I think we have to ask ourselves, what is the message we are sending..
Salam

The is an awesome post Shaikh!
Thanks for this and please do post some of these types of video’s if you come across any.
Wouldnt this world be so much better if “closed minds” come with “closed mouths”
This way people who are actually doing something can continue to do so.
Music has been used by early muslim in this country and it has preserved old songs such as “Levee Camp Holler” which documents Muslim African traditions in Blues music. Check it out when you get a chance ..

Salaam All
If Music is “Haram” then why are you people pressing the “play” button? With all due respect, get your heads out of books and into reality
Peace be upon all intellectually mature people

Asalamualikum,
In my opinion, its sad to see that the muslims here in the USA, need to resort to the level of what was prohibited in Islam to teach the deen.
my question is simple, should the Prophet (saw) have used the toold and the ways of the people of Mecca to teach Islam, perhaps he would have been more effective if he could relate better with the people of Jahiliyya? The message of our beloved Prophet (pbuh) was straight forward, accept Islam in total submission, not partially and maybe eventually you will get there.
How about the hadith of our Prophet(pbuh) that near to the day of judgement, our Umah will try to make permissible the drinking of alcohol and musical instruments.
Alhamdulillah we know the Prophet was correct and could forsee our future.
may Allah guide us to the correct path and show us truth from falsehood. - Ameen
