Salaam, thanks for the comments and questions--let me address as many as I can--

Sleep - working out and eating better actually allows you to be more efficient with less sleep. Naps are also a great idea.

Nutrition Shakes--Most are ok in terms of ingredients and there are actually halal caps in terms of vitamins/minerals.

Belly fat--Supplements like CLA and Green tea can target this area.

Ilyas--of course I remember you--we had some great times mA in Texas!

Being a chore--actually it is pretty simple if you make it part of your lifestyle--and one of the main benefits of eating better and exercising is to maximize ibadat--how can you worship properly if you feel tired and lazy. The Sahabah (r) encouraged exercise.. So one thing I've noticed myself is eating better and training during Ramadan actually makes my Salat and reading better! Some adjustments can be made during the longer fasts but the principles will remain. You can get more info by reading my books available on Amazon.

Sisters- Yes the same general plan applies for women but the differences would be adjusting calories/portions, using female oriented shakes and ntr bars (like Lean Body for HER by Labrada), and using female oriented vitamins/minerals (like Women's Blend from Super Nutrition). Many sisters have done very well using these principles in and out of Ramadan!

Please remember me in your duas!

Salaam,

Seekers of the Truth - Rehan is VERY specific about halal ingredients. Anything he recommends is going to be halal.

I have also been working out with Rehan for about 3.5 years. My body has made a complete change and it has really helped me in many different ways. It's amazing how excercising during Ramadan can keep you in shape, alert, and focused on Allah swt. For those of you that are surprised or hesitant by this regiment... if you only saw us workout in the gym, or better yet participated in a workout, you would be truly encouraged to do it yourself. We get about 20-25 brother in the gym at a time sometimes and we all have a great workout, a good time, and moreover a great network of friends where we discuss anything from deen to entrepreneurship.

Being healthy and taking care of ourselves is encouraged in Islam, and we should do positive things in every area that we can.

Salaam

I been doing this diet for the last three Ramadans. I can truly attest that this programs works. Before following this diet, I would gain weight, feel bloated, and worse of all be tired. Since doing this Jalali's Ramadan Diet program, I feel better, look better and pray longer.

With knowledge (Ilm), you can make better choices. Make healthy food choices will lead to success.

Lastly, some easy tips would be to bake samosa instead of frying them and get a your family and friends enthused about doing this diet.

oh yeah, and given that Ramadan is eventually moving into the longer days of summer ( i cant wait!), would these same suggestions on diet / routine apply? i'm in Toronto, so eventually there will only be a couple of hours between the end of Taraweeh and suhur. what then?

assalaamu alaikum wa rahmatullah

jazakAllah khayr for the insight into this diet during Ramadan. Its too late this year, but inshaAllah i'll be bookmarking this page for next year.

The MAIN THING that's got me concerned is that the nutritional aspect of working out seems to be a chore sometimes in itself. Not that I have a problem with it on most days, but during Ramadan, shouldnt we be focusing more on the spiritual side of our health? The workouts, the breaks, the supplements, the extra meals... dunno, it just seems to be time consuming, particularly in this blessed month.

thoughts?

Assalamu 'alaikum Rehan,

You are still as intense more than ten years later? I don't know if you remember me but we were together in the MSA at UT Austin.

Anyway, this sounds too complex. I'll just jog until my knees give up, which is pretty early and often.

Take care.
